Hi everyone, welcome to the Bid4Spots newsletter.

Bid4Spots has had a busy few months with lots of new advertisers trying radio and Bid4Spots for the first time. With the market still striving to regain its footing, many agencies and advertisers are looking for new reasons, and new platforms, to hit sectors and audiences that may have been overlooked.

Bid4Spots is a great way to sample different stations you haven’t tried before. You can even load different ad copy with different response mechanics into your auction. Then you can assign the copy to different winning stations when you get the result, enabling you to gauge response and see what stations are working best.

With this in mind we’re going to be profiling a couple of stations in each newsletter, to give you an idea of what’s available in the market. This month it's digital stations Jazz FM and NME.

We’re also looking at RAJAR this month – the currency of radio and what our media is traded on. Learn a bit more about Europe’s largest media survey below.

RAJAR

RAJAR is the radio audience measurement system for stations in the UK. Stations need to be on RAJAR, or surveyed, in order to be traded via Bid4Spots. The Bid4Spots system uses the RAJAR data to calculate the most cost efficient bids. If you don’t use radio a lot, you might wonder what all the numbers mean!

Firstly, RAJAR stands for Radio Joint Audience Research and is the official body in charge of measuring radio audiences in the UK. It is operated jointly by the BBC and the commercial radio industry. It measures approximately 340 individual stations, including 60 BBC stations and results are published every quarter.

Due to the complexity of the UK radio map, RAJAR interviews approximately 130,000 adults 15+ per year (plus roughly 5,000 children 4-14) over 50 weeks to ensure that the samples are representative of the population in every survey area . This makes RAJAR one of the biggest media surveys in the UK. Only one adult per household is interviewed. Respondents are asked to complete a one week diary showing all the stations they listened to, for at least 5 minutes, recorded in quarter hour time blocks.

RAJAR covers all sorts of questions such as whether the individual has a mortgage, uses the internet everyday or visits the cinema once a month! Bid4Spots can use this type of information for clients to see whether certain regions or stations will be better than others for their campaigns.

408,000 listeners.

Create either a National Auction or Any Available Markets auction and select other stations to compete in the auction.
 
NME Radio What is it?
Presenter led, music intensive radio station playing tracks from the best new bands and Indie legends, and featuring live sessions, band interviews, gig and festival guides and the most up to the minute music news.

Broadcast on?
Sky, Virgin Media, Online, Freesat and London DAB.

Who is their primary listener?
Indie music lovers, 15-34.

How many weekly listeners?
194,000 listeners.

How do I get it on Bid4Spots?
Create either a London Regional auction for Sunrise London or a National Auction for Sunrise National options and select other London or National stations to compete.
